Bennett's Superhero Party

Bennett has been looking forward to his birthday for about 11 months!  He has talked about what kind of party, presents, cake, and guests he would have every day (you think I'm exaggerating, but I'm NOT!) for as long as we can remember.  I think it was a good thing that his birthday lasted a whole week.  He turned 5 on June 5th and his party wasn't until this weekend, so it was nice to drag it out after all the anticipation.  When the kids started to get invited to so many parties this year, I knew our days of going without birthday parties were over.  So, I started planning for Bennett's party and even though his theme kept changing in his mind, I stayed with Superheroes.

Party day!  Finally its time!!

I was so lucky to have my sister come over to help me with the party.  She came the night before and helped me make all the capes and masks and decorate.

When we were all set for the party to start, we did a little sidewalk chalk while we waited to guests to arrive.  The weather was so beautiful!  Perfect for all our outdoor activities!

When kids arrived, Bennett helped them to a cape and mask and off they went to save the day!

Of course Eden had her own pink cape and mask :)

We had some super hero tattoos for everyone (parents were thrilled, I'm sure!)

Eden likes multiple tattoos at once (we're hoping that wears off before her teen years)

That's a lot of superheroes!!

Logan was a helper explaining all the games.  This one was a favorite: blasting villains with silly string!

The silly string was a little tough for the little kids to spray by themselves and I had several cans for each child, since I knew they would go crazy!

Sissy needed a chance, of course!

And this game of whacking the bop-bags never seemed to get old!  Give boys something to hit and you're set!

Water break!  Even Superheroes need a rest every now and then.

We were lucky to have all the grandparents for the party, too!

Eden stuck pretty close to the grandparents through all the commotion of the party.  I was thankful to have so many helpers and extra eyes on the kids.

Superhero Soccer

Told you she likes multiple tattoos:

Somehow we pulled off a party…and lived to smile for it!

Chasing rockets:

Our basic idea was to keep the boys all running and busy as long as possible, because you know cake and presents only take a few minutes.

They are starting to get tired out!

John did a great job of keeping them busy by coming up with new games: chasing something, catching something, hitting something with a pool noodle.  You know, boy stuff.  :)

Time for cake inside!  I don't even know where these mustaches came from...

Superhero fruit kabobs

We sang to Bennett, had cake, fruit and water and then Bennett opened his gifts from friends.  It was so fun!  Then the craziest thing happened when we were back outside:

Officer Todd Johnson pulled up and declared we were "having too much fun".  He stopped and entertained the kids with Junior Officer stickers, his squad car, and other equipment.  This was not a planned visit.  Actually, when he pulled up, he asked me what was going on here and I was a little nervous:  "Were we being too loud? Too Crazy? Did someone complain? The party is almost over and parents will be arriving while the police are here!"  Well, it was none of those things.  He was on duty, driving by, and loves kids, so he stopped to be a part of our party.  The kids had tons of questions for him - our own local superhero.

A few of the parents who arrived to pick their kids up reluctantly said something like, "What's going on here?"…when they saw the officer.  Then he got a call and headed out to help someone.  John happened to see him again later and he asked if we would send him some of the photos for his scrapbook.  What cool experience!

Friends left and then the party continued while we made pizzas for the family portion of our party.

The kids were tired and hot after a busy day of running outside!

It was an awesome day for Bennett's birthday celebration!  Thanks to Amy for helping me SO much!  And thanks to our parents for making the trip over to help with the party too!  Happy birthday Bennett!!  Only 12 months until the next one and we can't wait!!!
